Mansion Green Policies & Practices

We invite guests to help us to help the environment in our efforts to “go green” as much as we reasonably can in the following ways:

bullet

ASK FOR PITCHERS OF FILTERED WATER and glasses from the kitchen to minimize use of single-use bottles

bullet

(INTERMITTENT) LINEN SERVICE as requested for multiple nights: sheets and towels are changed upon request, if noticeably soiled, or on the third day of a multiple night reservation.

bullet

POWER DOWN: Turn off room lights and power strips with appliances plugged in when not in use and when you leave the room.

bullet

CLOSED DOORS & WINDOWS IN AIR CONDITIONED or HEATED ROOMS: Please do not leave doors on windows open when the heat or air conditioning is on in the buildings. Please allow an adjusted thermostat to regulate to room temperatures with doors and windows closed.

bullet

RECYCLE: Please separate recyclable materials such as containers, bottles, and papers so that we may add them to our recycle bins. A blue recycle bin is located near the kitchen on the first floor.

bullet

Guests can recycle: plastic containers, glass bottles, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, steel cans, newspapers, office paper, etc.

We encourage green group events!

bullet

Consider using quantities of tableware, linens, and food service items available in storage or rented from a caterer that can be washed rather than disposable items.

bullet

Consider disposable food service items that can be recycled and / or made with recycled content

bullet

We adhere to Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) Best Practices kitchen standards in Hampton Roads to preclude clogging ingredients entering local water / sewer system. Fats, oils and grease from cooking will be disposed of in the trash once solid, and not poured down the sink (plates should be scraped and dry wiped before washing).
